We
have all been really chompin' at the bit to go fishing all winter.
February starts my very favorite time of the
fishing season. The big Momma's are full
of eggs
and hungry.
They need strength for the upcomming
task of spawning. You don't have to find warm water yet.
They are just staging, getting ready to go
into the shallows.
I have found through the
years that the first breakline off the shallows near a
creek, you can hang some of the
biggest bass of your life. They are looking for
a "full meal deal", not
just
an appetizer. Big
and bulky works for
me. Cranks that dive to 20 ft. are ideal. 1oz.
Spinner baits,
1/2 oz. Jig &
Pig , and Lizards from 6" up to
Monticello size will get you bit! Fish
north banks with protection from
the wind. Last February I saw with my own
eyes a bass about the size of a coffee
thermos get swallowed
whole by a huge bass
in
Hammer
Creek. After that, I
have a saying "There is no bait too
big". |
